DSIP: Scientific Profile

Publicado el · Actualizado el

Endogenous neuromodulatory nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu; CAS 62568-57-4). Orphan neuropeptide that enhances delta (slow-wave) EEG activity. Reagent for research (RUO).

DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide; English name Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide; CAS 62568-57-4) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu. With the molecular formula C35H48N10O15S and a molecular weight of approximately 848.8 g/mol, it is a short peptide originally isolated from sleep studies in animal models, from which it takes its name owing to its association with delta wave activity.

From a structural standpoint, DSIP is a linear chain of nine amino acids. Despite its name, its exact functional classification and its specific receptor remain under study: in research it behaves more like a modulatory peptide with broad effects than like a ligand for a single well-defined target.

DSIP's mechanism of action is not fully characterized. In preclinical models its relationship with the regulation of sleep and circadian rhythms has been studied, as well as a possible involvement in the modulation of stress responses and in neuroendocrine circuits. Because of its ability to cross biological barriers and its relative stability, it has been used as a tool to explore peptide signaling in the central nervous system in research models.

In research, DSIP is used as a tool for studying the regulation of sleep and circadian rhythms, peptide neuromodulation, and neuroendocrine responses to stress in experimental models.

DSIP is supplied as a lyophilized powder for reconstitution. Frozen storage protected from light is recommended, along with reconstitution using the sterile diluent indicated in the protocol. This product is offered exclusively as a research reagent (research use only): it is not intended for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of any disease, nor for human or veterinary consumption.

Mechanism of action

DSIP modulates circadian rhythms and promotes cerebral delta waves associated with restorative deep sleep.

Mechanism summary

An orphan neuropeptide with no identified high-affinity receptor. After central administration it enhances the delta activity (slow waves) of the EEG, a property that gives rise to its name. Its precise molecular targets remain uncharacterized; it is used as a research tool in sleep regulation.
