How to reconstitute peptides
Technical guide to dissolving a lyophilized peptide with bacteriostatic water: materials, step-by-step procedure, common mistakes and storage at 2-8 °C. Note: informational and research material. Always consult a professional before handling any substance.
Materiales necesarios
Everything must be clean and sterile before starting.
- Lyophilized peptide vial
- Agua bacteriostática (BAC)
- Insulin syringe (29-31 G)
- Isopropyl alcohol wipes
Key handling data
Reference parameters for preparing and storing the vial.
- Storage — 2-8 °C, refrigerado
- Estabilidad reconstituido — 3-4 semanas
- Typical BAC volume — 1-2 mL per vial
- Diluyente recomendado — Agua bacteriostática (alcohol bencílico 0.9%)
Procedimiento paso a paso
- 01 Preparar materiales — Gather the lyophilized peptide vial, bacteriostatic water, insulin syringes and alcohol wipes. Make sure everything is clean and sterile.
- 02 Clean the vial — Clean the rubber cap of the vial with an alcohol wipe and let it dry for about 30 seconds before inserting the needle.
- 03 Extraer el agua bacteriostática — With the syringe, draw the desired volume of bacteriostatic water. For most vials, 1-2 mL is enough. Check the calculator for the exact concentration.
- 04 Inject slowly into the vial — Insert the needle and inject the water SLOWLY down the side of the vial, letting it run down the wall. Never inject directly onto the lyophilized powder.
- 05 Permitir la disolución — Let the vial rest for 5-10 minutes so the peptide dissolves gradually. Do NOT shake; swirl it gently if necessary.
- 06 Almacenar correctamente — Once reconstituted, refrigerate the vial at 2-8 °C. Most reconstituted peptides remain stable for 3-4 weeks under refrigeration.
Errores comunes
- Shake the vial vigorously — Mechanical stress can denature the peptide and reduce its integrity.
- Inject water directly onto the powder — The direct stream can damage the structure of the lyophilized compound.
- Not cleaning the cap with alcohol — It introduces contaminants that can degrade the solution.
- Store at room temperature — The reconstituted peptide degrades rapidly outside 2-8 °C.
Best practices
- Never shake the vial: mechanical stress can denature the peptide.
- Inject the diluent down the side of the vial so as not to damage the lyophilized powder.
- Protect from light: some peptides are photosensitive; store them in the dark.
- Calculate the exact concentration per vial with the reconstitution calculator.
- Verify the purity with the per-batch verifiable COA of each EXOMA vial.
FAQ
How much bacteriostatic water to use to reconstitute a peptide?
The volume depends on the peptide and the desired concentration. For many 5 mg vials, 1-2 mL of bacteriostatic water is used. Use our reconstitution calculator to determine the exact amount for your workflow.
How long does a reconstituted peptide last?
Reconstituted correctly with bacteriostatic water, it remains stable for 3-4 weeks refrigerated at 2-8 °C. Without refrigeration it degrades within hours. Never freeze an already reconstituted peptide.
Can distilled water be used instead of bacteriostatic?
It is not advisable for multiple-draw use. Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol that inhibits bacterial growth. Sterile water is only suitable for immediate single-draw use.
How to tell if a reconstituted peptide has degraded?
Signs of degradation: cloudy solution or one with visible particles, color change or unusual odor. At any of these signs, discard the vial.
