HGH: Scientific Profile
Publicado el · Actualizado el
Recombinant human growth hormone (somatropin, rhGH) of 191 amino acids, identical in sequence to endogenous pituitary somatotropin. GHR receptor agonist for research use (RUO). CAS 12629-01-5.
Somatropin (recombinant human growth hormone, rhGH or somatotropin) is a 191-amino-acid peptide hormone produced in E. coli by recombinant DNA technology, identical in sequence to the GH synthesized by the anterior pituitary (CAS 12629-01-5; formula C990H1528N262O300S7; molecular mass ~22124 Da). It belongs to the somatotropin class of peptide hormones and acts as an agonist of the growth hormone receptor (GHR). Its mechanism consists of GHR dimerization, which activates the tyrosine kinase JAK2 and the transcription factor STAT5b, and induces downstream MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt signaling, raising hepatic IGF-1 production. In in vitro and preclinical models it is used to study the GH/IGF-1 axis, somatotropic signaling, protein synthesis, lipolysis, body composition, and tissue regeneration. Reagent intended exclusively for research use only (RUO).
Mechanism of action
HGH acts through GH receptors in the liver and peripheral tissues, stimulating the production of IGF-1 that mediates many of its anabolic effects.
Mechanism summary
Growth hormone receptor (GHR) agonist: it induces the dimerization of the receptor and activates the JAK2-STAT5b pathway, with downstream MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt signaling, raising the hepatic production of IGF-1 and stimulating cell growth and metabolism.
