Peptide storage
Research peptides arrive lyophilized (as a powder), their most stable form. Temperature and state —before or after reconstitution— determine the shelf life and the integrity of the molecule.
Stability by temperature
Estimated shelf life based on storage temperature and the state of the vial. The freezer offers the greatest margin; room temperature is only justified during transport.
- -20 °C (congelador) — Liofilizado 2–3 años · reconstituido 3–6 meses. Largo plazo.
- 2–8 °C (refrigerador) — Liofilizado 6–12 meses · reconstituido 4–6 semanas. Uso regular.
- 20–25 °C (ambiente) — Liofilizado 1–3 meses · reconstituido 48–72 h. Solo transporte.
Reconstitution paso a paso
Reconstitution is a sequence: each step protects the potency of the peptide before and after adding the solvent.
- 01 Store the lyophilized product at -20 °C — While not in use, keep the powder vial in the freezer. In its lyophilized state the molecule is more stable and degradation is minimized.
- 02 Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water — Inject the solvent (0.9% benzyl alcohol) slowly down the wall of the vial. Swirl gently to dissolve; never shake or vortex.
- 03 Refrigerate at 2–8 °C and protect from light — Once reconstituted, store the vial in the refrigerator, protected from direct light, and label it with the reconstitution date.
- 04 Use within 21–30 days — The reconstituted peptide loses potency over time. Do not freeze and thaw repeatedly.
Manejo correcto
Recomendado:
- Usar agua bacteriostática (0.9 % alcohol bencílico) como solvente
- Inject the solvent slowly down the wall of the vial
- Swirl the vial gently to dissolve, never shake
- Label the vial with the reconstitution date
- Always store protected from light
Evitar:
- Use distilled or tap water as solvent
- Inject the solvent directly onto the powder
- Shake or vortex the vial vigorously
- Freeze and thaw repeatedly
- Exposing the vial to direct light or heat
Signs of degradation
Discard the vial if you observe any of these signs: they may indicate a loss of peptide integrity.
- Turbidity or visible particles in solution (high severity)
- Color change, yellowing (high severity)
- Precipitate that does not redissolve (high severity)
- Loss of activity in assays (high severity)
- Olor inusual (severidad media)
- Excessive foaming on reconstitution (low severity)
