Mechanism and compounds
Bacteriostatic water (BAC) contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which allows multiple withdrawals from the reconstituted vial while maintaining the sterility of the diluent; it is the standard vehicle for reconstituting most lyophilized peptides. The 0.6% acetic acid is used as an alternative diluent for hydrophobic compounds that do not dissolve well in water (for example certain fragments and long-chain peptides). The choice of diluent and its volume determine the final concentration per unit of measure; consult the reconstitution calculator for the exact calculation.
